Reinventing learning

An education crisis: 1 size fits no-one

Disconnect between formal learning and real life skills. Children disengaged from learning, not reaching their full potential - and this is all the more true for neurodivergent children.

With technology advances, the future needs problem solvers, innovators, bold creative thinkers combined with practical skills.

The proven value of play, freedom and creativity is under-exploited and is the way forward to help all children flourish beyond early years.  If we are to be truly inclusive, we need better solutions available to all children, so they can regain agency over their own learning.

Adventure Playgrounds

Adventure Playgrounds are a unique environments in the UK landscape for children age 6-16, offering free childcare and a real sense of freedom in the heart of cities where this has mostly been lost. Born out of a post war realisation that children needed space to flourish, these spaces offer a too rare place for children to hear ‘yes’, to develop confidence through play, and engage in healthy risk taking, while doing what they love: building things, breaking things, creating, trying stuff without fear of failure, without helicopter parenting but with support of skilled playworkers who guide, but don’t control and are trained experts at the whole child. But these spaces are increasingly disappearing due to lack of funding.

The opportunity

Space and expertise are at a premium. Yet both are already firmly established in Adventure Playgrounds. Starting with Shakespeare Walk Adventure Playground (SWAPA) - winner of the best London Adventure Playground 2023 - we are opening our doors to a different kind of education. One that is free, child led, interest-based and truly inclusive. We work with Pupil Referral Units, local schools, homeschool network, as well as corporations, artists, designers, to create experiences that truly matter on a personal level for every child.

PlaySpace Learning

We want to develop a model that can be rolled out across the UK using existing adventure playgrounds. :

  • A play-based space that offers children up to age 16 a chance to develop individual life skills on their own terms

  • delivered through collaborative project-based challenges across disciplines, led by experts, educators and creative practitioners.

  • nurtures children’s natural creative and social skills and lets them develop their very own path.

We are looking for partners to help us shape and fund this innovative approach. For more information and a full deck, get in touch now.
